MARCH 2013 UPDATE
Circular are proud to announce the latest release from The Procession. ‘Call You’ is taken from the band’s debut album ‘We are Now Leaving the Future’.
Based in Glasgow since their formation in 2001, KOSHKA (formerly Kesha) came together as a result of Oleg Ponomarev, Nigel Clark and Lev Atlas mutual love of music as diverse as classical, folk, and hotclub. Although no strangers to the big stage, having played to thousands during their respective careers, KOSHKA honed their sound playing intimate shows at Russian Cafe Cossachok and have rapidly become an in demand world music act.
What distinguishes KOSHKA as world class act, is not only the individual members’ virtuosity, but also the fact that they play almost entirely original material, composed by Oleg Ponomarev, widely recognised as one of the leading composers of contemporary world music. For this reason and to allow flexibility the group now perform as OLEG PONOMAREV’S KOSHKA.
‘The chemistry between the performers creates a mesmerizing mix of virtuosity, playfulness and emotional intensity which should not be missed. Due to their other commitments, the trio play an average of only fifty gigs a year so see them while you can!’ – CELTIC CONNECTIONS
‘Oleg takes the music in exciting new directions while still retaining that Russian Gypsy magic that has won him hearts everywhere…nothing less than incandescent virtuosity for the duration of the show…’ – THE SCOTSMAN
‘KOSHKA’s claim to Celtic Connections fame is as the only group to receive two standing ovations at this year’s festival’s late-night club……Mostly…the group get on with the business of being virtuosos. The pace varies from doleful, soulful, very Russian ballad through rhythms that quicken with the deliberation of a steam train into blurry fingered stuff that’s still played with the great feeling.’ – GLASGOW HERALD
